A nationwide event to collect food products within the Easter campaign “Meal of Joy” will be conducted on Saturday before Palm Sunday, on March 31. The collected products will be distributed to social eateries, elderly people and persons from socially deprived groups in Moldova. The event is organized by the Social Mission “Diaconia” of the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia.

The Mission’s director Igor Belei has told IPN that it is everyone’s moral duty to change things to the better so that the people in need have a place in the community. “We are confident that we will manage to gather many at the “Meal of Joy” and the gifts brought by everyone will be a nice occasion for opening the door of solitary elderly people and bringing the Easter joy to them,” stated Igor Belei.

The campaign will cover 100 stores in Chisinau, Balti, Cahul, Edinet, Causeni, Cantemir, Ungheni, Boghenii-Vechi, Stefan-Voda, Straseni, Calarasi, Soroca, Hancesti, Donduseni, Ialoveni, Cricova, Stauceni, Straseni, Floresti, Ucrainca, and Ratus. The involved stores are: Green Hills, Velmart, Linella, UniMarket, IMC Market, Metro, and Family Market.

Special donations boxes will be set up in the given shops. At the entrance to the stores, volunteers dressed in yellow vests will inform the people about the goal of the project and the possibility of donating non-decaying food products.

The Easter campaign “Meal of Joy” is staged the ninth consecutive year to cultivate solidarity, compassion and love for the close ones. The collection event will take place between 10am and 7pm.
