Head of the Pre-University Education Division Valentin Crudu said the education institutions are now prepared for the 2018-2019 school year. Extensive and current repair works are being carried out so as to ensure the necessary hygiene and sanitary conditions. Preparations are also made for the cold season of the year. The school buses are subject to overhaul and conditions of access to buildings are created for students with special educational needs. Almost 10 million lei was allocated this year for the purpose, including for general education, early education and primary, secondary, complementary and special education.

Valentin Crudu said the national education institutions face a shortage of 2 032 specialists. The problem will be partially solved by employing graduates of this year’s class. The rate of filling the vacancies by assigning graduates of teacher training institutions stands at 31%. The institutions need mainly such specialists as math, physics, chemistry and preschool and primary school teachers.

In another development, the Division’s head said the first-ninth graders will be provided with textbooks free. A number of 29 titles of textbooks for primary and secondary education are to be reedited this year. The new textbooks will reach the students starting with next year.

In Moldova, there are over 1,000 primary and secondary schools and lyceums that are attended by more than 300,000 children.
