The flu shots that were to arrive in Moldova last week are late. The health authorities expect that these will come on December 13 and flu vaccination is to start the next day.

“The customs impediments were dealt with and, as the minister of health stated in the last Cabinet meeting, the vaccines will reach Moldova tomorrow and the immunization process will start on December 14,” Stela Cheptene, consultant of the Ministry of Health’s press service, stated for IPN.

Chisinau Health Division head Mihai Moldovanu, in the ordinary Monday meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, said about 34,000 vaccines are needed this year, by 11,000 more than last year. A number of 13 cases of flu, eight of which in children, were reported last week. These were all confirmed by lab tests. As many as 49 children were hospitalized with suspected flu. Though the rise is significant compared with a week before, the situation is under control.

The consignment contains 200,000 flu shots. The people working in healthcare, social assistance and emergencies and the patients with chronic diseases will be vaccinated the first. Vaccination is not mandatory for everyone and can be performed at request.
