A man aged 68 from Chisinau died after developing complications associated with flu. This is the 13th life claimed by flu in the period between October 1, 2018 and January 31, 2019. None of the victims had been vaccinated against flu even if these formed part of the category of people facing an increased risk of infection.
Contacted by IPN, Ștefan Gheorghiță, division head at the National Public Health Agency, said the man got sick on January 20 and went to see a doctor too late. He was hospitalized on January 29 with pancreatitis and chronic hepatitis. He died on January 31.
Specialists warn the population to immediately see a doctor when symptoms of disease appear. The patients should be isolated at home and hospitalized, if necessary. Those who are exposed to the risk of infection, pregnant women, immunocompromised persons, those with cardiovascular and chronic respiratory system diseases and diabetes and those who are obese should avoid contact with sick persons.
