A girl aged 14 died at the Cahul District Council being diagnosed with respiratory insufficiency, bilateral pneumonia and septic shock. Lab tests confirmed the presence of the A(H3N2) influenza virus. According to the health authorities, this is the first case of death the current flu season.
Contacted by IPN, director of the Cahul District Hospital Oleg Creciun said the girl was brought by an ambulance in the evening of December 10. As she was in a critical state, she was admitted to the intensive care section. Doctors’ efforts to help her failed. She died the next day.
The National Public Health Agency said that nine cases of seasonal flu have been reported since the start of the flu season. Vaccination against flu among the categories with an increased risk of infection and development of post-flue complications continues.
To prevent the spread of flue and respiratory infections, it is recommended seeing a doctor on the first symptoms. The infected persons must be isolated at home and must wear protection masks. The rooms should be ventilated and disinfected. The hands should be washed with water and soap and the mouth and nose should be covered with a tissue when coughing and sneezing. The intake should be rich in vitamins and with an increased volume of fluids.
