Officials and ordinary people from Moldova and abroad have laid flowers at the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great this morning, on the occasion of Chisinau's Day. Afterward, the delegations went to the Metropolitan Cathedral, where they were met by Metropolitan Bishop Vladimir, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mayor of Chisinau in 1994-2005 Serafim Urecheanu said this day is one of the nicest for Chisinau. The City's Day started to be celebrated in 1995 on the second Sunday of October. From 2000, Chisinau celebrates its day on October 14, when it is observed the Feast of the Intersession. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca wished the residents of Chisinau and suburban settlements good luck, health and prosperity. “We want Chisinau to develop and flourish. It is a nice day and we hope everyone will enjoy themselves,” he said. Gheorghe Valentin Rotar, the Mayor of Blaj municipality of Romania's Alba county, said he came to Chisinau at the invitation of Dorin Chirtoaca and Durlesti councilors. He said he was in Chisinau for the first time and did not manage to make trips, but saw it is a nice and green city. '”I hope this day will be fruitful and the established friendship relations will develop further. A day will come when we will be one country, not only one nation,” he stressed. Poet and Durlesti councilor Stefan Sofronivici said the city is nice and ready for celebration. “During a year, Chisinau has breathed clean air and I hope we will continue making progress. We must live in harmony, be hardworking and respectful,” he said. Chisinau celebrates today 574 years of its establishment. The festivities will last by midnight.
