The people continue to bring flowers and candles at the Embassy of Poland in Chisinau, in honor of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and other senior officials who died in a plane crash in Russia's Smolensk last weekend. Former Premier of Moldova Valeriu Muravschi was the first to put his signature in the condolence book on April 13, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I offer my condolences to the Polish Government and people. I had highly respected the President of Poland for his principled position in promoting the interests of his country, including in the process of joining the EU and NATO, and for his support fir the reforms implemented in Moldova and Moldova's aspirations for European integration,” Valeriu Muravschi said, adding that Moldova lost a good friend.
Mihai Mereuta, a pensioner from Chisinau, laid flowers and lit a candle near Lech Kaczynski's picture. “I think evil forces did not want that the Polish president take part in the commemoration of 70 years (of the Katyn massacre, when Polish military men were killed -e.n.). Moldova lost a reliable supporter, but is anyway backed by Poland,” he said.
Alexandru Neaga, a civil servant, said the Polish President was an example for Moldova. “If we follow the steps of the Polish people and Lech Kaczynski, our country will be flourishing in ten years. The Polish people and culture are a good model to follow,” he said.
Students of the Chisinau high school “Literarum” came with flowers to express their condolences to the Polish people. “This is the least we can do for the Polish people. I think it is our duty to offer them our support in this difficult moments,” said student Dragos Ciobanu.
People also left letters of condolences at the Polish Embassy. The Facebook Group that has over 755 members left many such messages.
The residents of Chisinau can leave messages in the condolence book at the Embassy of Poland in Chisinau (126 A Grenoble St), from 12 to 16 April, between 10.00 and 12.00 and 14.00 and 16.00.
Lech Kaczynski, his wife Maria and another 94 Polish officials and crew members died in a plane crash on the airport in Smolensk on April 10. The Polish delegation was to take part in the activities held to commemorate 70 years of the Katyn massacre.
