A prosecution officer of the Floresti Police Inspectorate was sentenced to three years in jail for traffic of influence. Immediately after the sentence was passed, the culprit was arrested, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the criminal case against the policeman was started after a person informed the law enforcement bodies that the police officer promised to influence the prosecutor to drop the charges over theft attempt against him in exchange for 1,500 lei.

The policeman was arrested last May. When questioned by prosecutors, he admitted his guilt. In the same criminal case, a prosecutor of the Floresti Prosecutor’s Office was brought to justice, but the case against him is still tried.

As many as 44 police officers were convicted of acts of corruption in 2013.
