The floods can have serious epidemiological consequences, the deputy chief doctor of the Chisinau Center of Preventive Medicine, Ion Cebotari told a news conference.
According to him, the conditions are favorable for an outbreak of cholera, dysentery and other acute diarrheal diseases.
“The floods took the life of many animals. If they are not taken out of the water, they can also cause such diseases as anthrax,” Ion Cebotari said.
About 2,000 brochures will be distributed to the population from the inundated zones. The brochures include the rules of consuming drinking water and food products. It is recommended that swimming in the Nistru should be banned and personal hygiene be observed, Cebotari stated.
All the economic entities that opened recreational facilities before floods will have to obtain new sanitary authorizations when the situation returns to normal.
