A boy aged five burned to death in a hut made of stacks of corn sheaves where he was playing. The tragedy struck a family from Beshalma village of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia on October 2.
Liliana Puscasu, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the boy was playing with his neighbor aged seven near sheaves of corn in a garden. They improvised a hut. At a certain moment, it started to burn. The vine caught fire as well. The seven-year-old boy managed to escape, while the other boy remained inside. When the adults came, they could do nothing as the fire destroyed everything.
It was later established that the children were playing with matches. The parents said they did not see when the boys took the matches.
Firefighters warn the parents and other persons taking care of children to keep them under supervision and explain to them that it is very dangerous to play with fire.
The 1 550 fires that happened in Moldova so far this year resulted in 87 deaths. Three of the victims were children.
