Five state-funded residential schools, known as internat-type schools, will be closed down and the ownership of their assets will be transferred to the local authorities, under a decision published in the Official Gazette today.

As proposed by the Ministry of Education, two boarding schools for orphans and children deprived of parental care will be closed in Leova and Orhei, and three other residential schools will stop operating in Sarata-Galbena/Hincesti, Rezina and Crihana Veche/Cahul.

The buildings and lands will be given to the local authorities to be used preferentially for educational purposes.
