The measures taken to optimize the education system in the Transnistrian region include the closing of five schools and 100 classes starting with the 2013-2014 school year, IPN reports.

According to “Novyi Region” Agency, the decision to optimize the education system of the region was taken at the beginning of this year following the reduction in the number students in classes and the need to cut the budget spending by closing the inefficient schools.

The Transnistrian administration said the schools that are the only ones in a settlement will not be closed even if the number of students there is low. The optimization process will continue next year.

Currently, the classes in the schools of Tiraspol include 26 children. In several schools, including in Bender town, the tenth and eleventh grades will not be formed. Most of the classes were closed in Tiraspol and Bender – 20 and, respectively, 19.

Almost 700 children were enrolled in the Transnistrian schools in the new school year.
