The 19 accidents that occurred on Moldova’s roads during the past three days of last week owing to imprudent drivers resulted in five deaths and 20 persons injured, IPN reports.

According to the National Patrol Inspectorate, the inspectors during December 6-8 identified over 2,000 violations of the road traffic regulations. Almost 900 of the drivers exceeded the legal speed limit. Among the violations are also the ignoring of road signs and non-giving of way.

Also, almost 50 of the drivers were banned from driving as they were inebriated. Twelve of the persons caught driving under the influence travelled on the streets of Chisinau and two of these were under the influence of drugs.

Driving under the influence and speeding are the main causes of road accidents.
