Five ministers to be replaced, ex-Premiers Leanca and Gaburici return to Cabinet

Six members of the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Pavel Filip – five ministers and a deputy prime minster - will be replaced and one more post of Deputy Prime Minister will be introduced, president of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc announced after the meeting of the ruling coalition on December 19, IPN reports.

According to the Democratic leader, there will be introduced the post of Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and this will be occupied by ex-Premier Iurie Leanca, leader of the European People’s Party of Moldova.

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration George Balan will be substituted by Cristina Lesnic.

Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Octavian Calmic will be replaced by former Prime Minister Kiril Gaburici.

National Blood Transfusion Center director Svetlana Cebotari will hold the post of Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection instead of Stela Grigoras.

Vasile Bitca will be replaced by the rector of the Agrarian University Liviu Volconovici as Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Galbur will be replaced by Moldova’s Ambassador in Geneva Tudor Ulianovschi.

The Ministry of Justice will be again headed by Alexandru Tanase, ex-president of the Constitutional Court, who will substitute Vladimir Cebotari.

Vlad Plahotniuc said the seven will be named to posts by December 31, 2017. The changes were made following the assessment of the work of the Cabinet member. A new assessment will be carried out next spring.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip said only some members of the Cabinet now represent political parties and this will enable the executive to do the launched reforms without delays generated by the involvement of Cabinet members in the election campaign next year, which is an electoral one. The Government he heads will be technocratic and depoliticized and will consist of professionals only.
