Five mayors of communities of Briceni district, elected on the lists of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), defected from the party to join the Democratic Party (PDM), IPN reports, quoting a political statement signed by the given local elected officials. They explained that they took such a decision motivated by the possibilities offered by a ruling party, unlike the parties of the opposition, to deliver on their electoral promises, including as regards the European integration.

“The political crisis of the recent past turned into an economic crisis. There is a risk that the country will soon be unable to pay salaries and pensions, to maintain the schools, nurseries and health facilities. In this connection, we support the current government that continues to implement the Association Agreement with the EU and to make effort to unlock the external financing,” reads the statement.

“As a mayor elected on the lists of the PLDM in Briceni district, I want to fulfill the made promises that can be yet delivered only within a stable and pro-European government. The reform of the rule of law institutions, the economic recovery and better living conditions for each of us cannot be ensured if the PLDM, the party that I represent, avoids responsibility.”

Therefore, the mayors of Medvejca commune, the villages Coteala, Criva and Tetcani and of Lipcani town decided to leave the PLDM and join the PDM, which is a party that wants political stability and a European course.
