Five MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party on March 2 submitted a requisition asking that ex-Premier Vlad Filat should be released from remand detention under house arrest under their guarantee. These are Maria Ciobanu, Vadim Pistrinciuc, Tudor Deliu, Angel Agachi and Grigore Cobzac. The application was presented during a hearing in the case of the former Liberal-Democratic Prime Minister, IPN reports.
Vadim Pistrinciuc told the press that Vlad Filat does not pose a public threat and cannot influence the investigation. “The excessive guarding and other things form part of a process of exerting psychological pressure rather than of a legal process to discover the truth,” said the Lib-Dem.
In the March 2 hearing, there was questioned the first witness, who is businessman Ilan Shor. The prosecution of Vlad Filat for passive corruption and traffic of influence is built on the self-denouncing statements made by the mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor.
A week ago, the members of the Petrenco group, who were arrested after the September 6 protest mounted in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office, were released under house arrest under the guarantee of Socialist MPs. The Rascani Court took such a decision following an approach made by Socialist MPs.
