The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office sent to court a criminal case over the provision of bad loans by BC Banca de Economii. Five former members of the bank’s Lending Committee stand trial in this case that will be examined by the Buiucani District Court, IPN reports.

In a communiqué, the Prosecutor General’s Office said that in 2010-2011, the five members of the Committee, violating the lending rules, granted bad loans to the value of 109 million lei to economic entities. As a result, significant damage was caused to the bank.

In order to recover the money, the prosecutors sequestrated goods, some of which belong to the five defendants.

The National Anticorruption Center continues the investigation into cases of bad loan provision at Banca de Economii.

The bank found itself in a difficult situation after a number of bad loans were released. Last year, after the additional issue of closed-type shares at Banca de Economii, for which the state didn’t subscribe, the state-owned holding fell from 56.13% to 33% + 1, turning from a majority holding into a blocking one.
