Five women from the districts of Florești, Soroca, Ialoveni and Ștefan Vodă gave birth on the way to the maternity hospital or at home on January 11 and 12. The three baby boys and two baby girls were born without problems. The mothers are aged between 30 and 40.

Spokesman for the National Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance Center Vladislava Ceban has told IPN that two women from Florești and Soroca on January 11 gave birth in the ambulance. The women went into labor suddenly, while being taken to the maternity hospital. The newborns, a girl and a boy, were about 3kg in weight. The next day, a woman from Ialoveni gave birth to a baby girl weighting 3.2kg in an ambulance. Another two women, from Ialoveni and Ștefan Vodă, were helped to give birth at home. The women were delivered of baby boys and those weren’t their first children.

Vladislava Ceban said it happens that women given birth on the way to the maternity hospital or at home, but to have five cases of the kind during 48 hours is something unordinary. Such situations are witnessed because the women ask for medical assistance too late or due to physiological reasons as the women who were delivered of babies earlier give birth to the next children faster. “The children should be born in hospital conditions, but it can happen that women give birth in an ambulance. Our crews offer them medical assistance and help them to give birth to children safely,” stated Vladislava Ceban.

The mothers and the newborns were taken to the hospital for medical care.
