The first 76 bars that limit access to sidewalks were set up on Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Blvd, on the section between the streets Vlaicu Pârcălab and Mihai Eminescu. At intersections and near crosswalks, the bars will be higher, of 1.1 meters, in contrast to the standard bars of 0.5 meters, and will be have reflective tops, IPN reports.
According to the municipality of Chisinau, the bars were placed to prevent the parking of cars on sidewalks and to ensure the free access of pedestrians and bicyclists to the specially laid out areas. Such poles will be put on Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Blvd, Constantin Negruzzi Blvd and Vasile Alecsandri St.
Over 5,000 bars will be installed overall at a cost of 5.2 million lei. The money will be allocated from the municipal budget.
