The first tranche of €50 million of the macro-financial assistance offered by the European Union is to reach Moldova at the end of this month, IPN quoted Prime Minister Ion Chicu as saying after the meeting of senior state officials.

The official said that to benefit from the second tranche of the macro-financial assistance, the Republic of Moldova must satisfy a number of important conditions. He assured that the authorities are ready to meet the agreed conditions, such as the existence of a program with the International Monetary Fund. “We want to believe that despite the political, electoral agenda, the program that we negotiated with the IMF in July will be signed and will take effect,” he noted.

The European Commission in April adopted a proposal for a €3 billion macro-financial assistance package to ten enlargement and neighborhood partners to help them to limit the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic, including €100 million for the Republic of Moldova. Later, the European Commission negotiated a new memorandum of understanding with the Government of the Republic of Moldova. This specified exact conditions for accessing the anti-crisis macro-financial assistance of €100 million.
