First table tennis medalists at CIS Games announced

Olga Kosyc and Gabriela Stepan have become today the first winners of the CIS Games in women's table tennis (double, age category - to 35 years), defeating Olga Zaicenco and Ecaterina Vasenina 6:2 | 6:2, Info-Prim Neo reports. At the same category in men's, the pair Igor and Alexandru Cuznetov won at a dramatic score 7:6 | 7:5 over Vladislav Zaicenco and Stanislav Ivanov. Acording to the organizers, this table tennis tournament is single-legged because of the unexpectedly low number of participants who entered the competition. Moldovan Table Tennis Federation secretary Sergei Zaicenco told Info-Prim Neo that this tournament has a semi-professional character. “Most of the sportsmen competing are amateurs and we encourage them to participate whenever they have the chance”, he said. On Thursday, September 25, the National Tennis Court in Chisinau will host the second matchday with four fixtures, and later the awards ceremony.
