The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) issued a broadcast license to the first sport TV channel in Moldova – “Sport Moldova”. The channel will retransmit programs of the Russian TV channel “Boets” (“Fighter”), but pledged to broadcast 53% of national programs, including 13% of own programs. The decision was taken unanimously, IPN reports.
BCC chairman Marian Pocaznoi asked the TV channels’ representatives to reduce the volume of programs retransmitted from the Russian channel or to arrange the broadcast schedule in a different way as there are aggressive programs and fighting scenes that can be aired only at night, when the children do not watch TV. The BCC members also requested extending the range of sports programs and promoting other types of activities such as dance sports and skating.
The representative of “Sport Moldova” Tudor Gorea, president of the National Oriental-Kickboxing Federation, said that a sport TV channel is necessary in Moldova as many of the young sportspersons are not promoted. He assured the BCC that the hours at which the Russian channel will be retransmitted will be modified so as not to affect children’s interests.
