The first monograph about the National Opera House was launched in Chisinau on October 18. The study was published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the institution’s foundation.
Andrei Lozovan, director general of the House, said that the album-book is the first comprehensive work that relates about the over 100 performances staged throughout the existence of the National Opera House.
Aurelian Danil, former head of the institution and author of the section about opera, says that his theatrical experience helped him compile the given part.
Specialist in ballet Elfrida Coroliova says that the work is a short history of the national ballet in pictures. According to her, the main difficulty in producing the book was to find the pictured material. There were used the pictures from the House’s archive and from the personal archives of the artists. These are suggestive images that catch positions, moves, attitudes and even performance styles, Elfrida Coroliova said.
During the launch ceremony, the veteran actors of the Natinal Opera House were presented with a copy of the monograph printed by the publishing house “Prut International”.
The Opera Studio had staged several opera and ballet performances in Chisinau between 1946-1949. On June 1956, there was shown the first national opera called “Grozavan” by D.Ghersfeld under the libretto of poet V. Rusu. The National Opera House was established one year later.
