The first meeting of the Moldova – EU Association Council has been put off because no government has been yet installed in Moldova. The Moldovan authorities proposed postponing the meeting until February or March, acting deputy minister of foreign affairs and European integration Iulian Groza said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN.

The acting deputy minister said the postponement of this meeting does not seriously affect the association agenda. “Last week we had a meeting of the governmental commission for European integration, which was chaired by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. There, Missis Gherman presented information about the content of the report for carrying out the plan of action for implementing the Association Agreement. There were set the priorities for 2015. Regardless of the time the meeting of the Association Council takes place, it does not delay the process of implementing the Association Agreement,” stated Iulian Groza.

Most probably, the meeting will be held on February 9 or on March 16. A preliminary date is to be set immediately after the government is formed. It will center on the implementation of the Association Agreement and the priorities for this year, including the broader cooperation with the EU within the EaP.

The Moldova – EU Association Council is an institutional platform of primary importance created to set the tasks that Moldova should carry out to become an associate member of the EU.

Referring to the postponement of the visit by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, which was to take place on January 22, Iulian Groza said the reason is similar.
