The National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) allocated almost 740,000 lei from its prophylaxis fund for buying the first consignment of 8,000 doses of rabies vaccine for 2021.The lot was delivered to Moldova and was taken to the national vaccine storehouse of the National Public Health Agency, IPN reports.
In a press release, the CNAM says the rabies vaccine is indicated for preventing rabies in children and adults and is used before and after exposure to rabies as primary immunization.
Pre-exposure or prophylactic immunization is recommended to persons who are at high risk of infection with this virus, such as veterinaries, personnel of laboratories that study rabies, children who were or are in contact with species of animals that can have rabies.
Post-exposure vaccination is indicated after the person is bitten by an animal that can be rabid and when particular persons are suspected of having been exposed to rabies.
