The first local information office of Parliament will be inaugurated in Comrat on May 8. By the end of this year, more such offices will be opened in Edinet, Orhei and Leova. The legislative body aims to extend its network of offices at national level starting with July 2016, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from Parliament, the inauguration ceremony in Comrat will involve Speaker Igor Corman, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Cemil Çiçek, who will be in Moldova on a visit, Chairman of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Dmitry Constantinov, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Nicola Harrington-Buhay, Ambassador of Sweden to Moldova Ingrid Tersman.

The local information offices of Parliament are regional information offices designed to facilitate communication between Parliament and the people, to contribute to the adoption of decisions based on voters’ interests and to ensure closer dialogue with civil society. The offices aim to help the people to understand what Parliament does and to increase the people’s trust in the legislative body.

Meetings of the MPs and the voters from the region will be organized within the offices on a regular basis. There will be provided information about the Parliament’s work, the changes to the legislation and the implemented policies, the regional development and European integration projects, and staged conferences and exhibitions.

The pilot program to set up information offices was worked out within the UNDP project “Support to Parliamentary Development in Moldova” in a move to ensure better interaction between the lawmakers and civil society.
