The Supreme Council for Science and Technological Development of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova selected the winner of the first nominal prize “Grigore Vieru”. It is Doctor Habilitate Vasile Bahnaru, the acting director of the Academy's Philology Institute. He was awarded for the monograph “Elements of Romanian Semasiology”, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the press service of the Academy.
The monograph constitutes an important pilot accomplishment in philology. It examines multilaterally a wide range of semantic lexical problems in the Romanian language.
The work focuses on theoretical aspects, general linguistics, general semasiology and lexicology and is intended for students of the departments of philology and modern languages and for university lecturers.
The contest for the prize “Grigore Vieru” was organized for the first time. The prize was instituted with the aim of stimulating research in philology (linguistic, terminology, literary science and folkloristics). It will be awarded once in two years by the Supreme Council for Science and Technological Development of the Academy of Sciences.
The prize of 30,000 lei and the Diploma of Honor will be handed over to the laureate on February 14, 2010, on poet Grigore Vieru's birthday, during a festive meeting at the Academy.
