Seventeen doctors with managerial posts in Moldova’s medical institutions today graduated from the Public Health Management School (PHMS). They were first to receive certificates from the School. PHMS director Oleg Lozan says that the School aims to promote national and European standards in public health management and to develop the professional skills of medical practitioners with managerial functions. To accomplish this goal, the School provides a two-year Master course, involving both national and foreign experts in the teaching process. The doctors studied 26 courses, including general management, managerial psychology, economics, finance, HR planning, European standards in public health, etc. According to Oleg Lozan, a month ago the School became a full member of the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region. “Our certificates will be thus recognised Europewide, meaning that our graduates will be able to continue their studies in other European countries, but also that foreign students will be able to study at PHMS”, Oleg Lozan added. Health Minister Ion Ababii stated as part of the graduation ceremony that, even though some think doctors shouldn’t run medical establishments and patients should be their only concern, the health care system runs perfectly when doctors are in command. “I believe such kind of specialists must have a firm medical grounding”, the minister concluded.
