The Chisinau District Election Council registered the first five aspirants as runners in the May 20 mayoral elections. These are: Reghina Apostolova, of the Shor Party; Valeriu Munteanu, of the Liberal Party; Vasile Costiuc, of the Party “Democracy at Home”, Andrei Nastase, the common candidate of the Party “Dignity and Truth” and the Party “Action and Solidarity”, and Alexandr Roshko, of the Party “Our Home – Moldova”, IPN reports.
The five submitted the documents to the Electoral Council on April 4. Also then, as a result of a draw, it was decided that Vasile Costiuc will head the list of candidates on the ballot. He will be followed by Andrei Nastase, Alexandr Roshko, Reghina Apostolova and Valeriu Munteanu.
Also, the Party of Socialists’ candidate Ion Ceban filed the documents to the Electoral Council on April 10. The decision as to the registration of this applicant will be taken within seven days.
Sergiu Tofilat and Maia Laguta, who announced their intention to run as independents, last week requested the subscription lists for gathering at least 10,000 signatures in their support from residents of Chisinau municipality, as the law provides. Acting mayor of Chisinau Silvia Radu asked for the subscription lists today, April 10. In a posting, Silvia Radu said she will collect signatures as of April 11, but hasn’t yet decided whether to run or not.
The National Unity Party fielded Constantin Codreanu for mayoralty. He intends to enter the election campaign on April 11, but hasn’t yet submitted the documents for being registered as an election runner.
The deadline for submissions is April 19, 2018.
