The first family-type creches were opened in Moldova. Alternative in-home care services are offered by childminders to a maximum number of five children up to three years old. The Partnership for Development Center said that the caregiver provides increased and individualized attention to each child, offering them a family, safe and stimulating environment for development, IPN reports.

Alina Andronache, of the Partnership for Development Center, said that Moldova managed to do a lot for parents with young children and assured that a greater effort will be made further.

The main reference document in the field is the Law on Alternative Child Care Services – the normative framework that is the basis of the National Program "Extension of Care Services for Children Younger than Three”. The alternative services are one of the pillars of this program.

MP Marina Morozova said that a lot of work was done on this law and to identify childminders ready to provide in-home services.

"We have this ambition because I had once read about Finland, the country where it is best to raise a child. We set the same goal for Moldova. We do not want any child to be left behind," said Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu.

"The motivation to become a parent is increasing in the context of the efforts made the recent years. We have the first successfully integrated children. In the coming years, we must multiply these efforts," Mihaela Iurașcu, Street Child representative, said at the closing event of the Mentoring Program for Providers of Alternative Family-Type Childcare Services.

All the caregivers of family-type in-home creches are individuals with a license, who received training in early education, ethics and sanitary compliance. For the safety of children, parents conclude a service contract with the selected provider.
