The first fair organized under the slogan “We Have the Tastiest Fruits”has opened in the village of Puhaceni, Anenii Noi district. The fair is part of the Government's initiative to show “national solidarity” and support local fruit and vegetable growers that have been affected by the Russian import ban, IPN reports.
The campaign “We Have the Tastiest Fruits” includes holding farmers' fairs throughout Moldova, starting today and until the end of the harvesting season, the Government said in a press release.
Prime Minister Iurie Leanca bought some treats at the fair and discussed marketing possibilities with the vendors. “I bought some apples, grapes and two jars of honey to take them to a nursing home for the elderly located in the village. I also bought some fresh garlic and hot peppers for myself, too”, said the prime minister.
The event was also attended by Agriculture Minister Vasile Bumacov, who said that it was important to develop the vending infrastructure. “There are villages where markets have developed by tradition. We'll have a 120 million euro project, with financing from the European Investment Bank, to enhance the local and central markets”, said Vasile Bumacov.
The Government recently approved a set of measures to support farmers, including compensations for fruit and vegetable growers, fiscal concessions and loan extensions.
