The first exhibition of plastic arts dedicated fully to the old and contemporary Chisinau was opened on the eve of the Day of the City at the Exhibitions Center “Constantin Brancusi”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the center’s director, art critic Tudor Braga, the idea belongs to the head of Chisinau’s Centru district Vladimir Sarban, who insisted on staging an extensive exhibition that would bring together old and modern works with images of Chisinau and its people. The exhibit includes pictures of some of the about 1,500 monuments that exist in Chisinau or at designed at the Chisinau-Proiect Institute.
Vladimir Sarban has told Info-Prim Neo that the idea of such an exhibition came to him long ago. It was backed by the Mayor of Chisinau and then implemented by officials of the Exhibitions Center “Constantin Brancusi” and the Union of Plastic Artists. Woks by great national artists, modern painters have been displayed in the exhibitions hall.
At the inaugural ceremony, Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said that in paintings Chisinau is even more beautiful than in reality. “It is a history of the city in images. We decided to hand over the municipal scholarships to veterans and young talents here, combining thus yesterday and today. It is the first exhibition, not yet the last. We will stage new such exhibitions in the future,” the mayor assured.
Ghenadie Jalba, president of the Union of Plastic Artists, said that the presence of ambassadors working in Chisinau and of representatives of the Chisinau administration at the exhibition means that the plastic artists meet the demands of the art consumers.
The exhibition “Old Chisinau. New Chisinau” contains 150 works by Moldovan plastic artists. It will be open until October 18.
