A senior inspector of the frauds division of the Centru Customs Office was arrested on charges of bribery. He asked €400 from a man for releasing a car with a Bulgarian license number, which was earlier confiscated for violating the period of stay in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime.
According to the anticorruption officers, during the arrest the €400 marked bribe were found in the inspector's car. The customs officer is now held at the Center's remand unit. He faces up to 10 years in prison or fine of up to 60,000 lei. In booth of the cases, he will be banned from holding a particular post or performing a particular activity for a period of up to five years.
This is the first customs officer caught taking bribe this year. Seven customs employees were investigated for corruption-related offenses last year.
