The delivery of the first commercial batch of Moldovan apples to India started in Bilicenii Vechi of Sângerei district, IPN reports.
"India is a new market, but a huge opportunity for the horticultural sector," state secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Șarban said at the event.
The official stressed that new markets mean new customers, new contracts and, implicitly, higher revenues for producers.
Moldova’s Ambassador to India Ana Taban said that the export of Moldovan apples to the Indian market reflects the solid bilateral relations between the two countries.
"I am looking forward to seeing the Moldovan apples reaching the tables of Indian consumers," said the diplomat.
Moldova Fruct executive director Iurie Fală, said that "the Indian market, with over 1 billion consumers, offers a significant opportunity for Moldovan apple producers due to the high demand for quality fruits."
"The expansion of exports to India diversifies the target markets and contributes to the stability of the horticultural sector. The possibility to deliver them immediately after harvesting is an important advantage for Moldovan apple producers," said the executive director of Moldova Fruct.
"The truck from Bilicenii Vechi in 3-4 days will arrive in Istanbul, Turkey, from where the apples will be loaded onto the ship bound for the port of Mumbai, India," said the director of Fruct Grup SRL Iurie Dogotari.
The Republic of Moldova was officially approved for the export of apples to India on February 21, 2025. The decision was preceded by trial supplies delivered under the supervision of the National Food Safety Agency. 340 tonnes of apples have been exported since 2023 until now in this way.
