The first classical lyceum in Moldova – the Theoretical Lyceum “Vasile Alecsandri” – celebrates 25 years of its foundation. In the period, it was graduated by 23 generations of students. On this occasion, a festivity was staged at the Palace of Railway Workers in Chisinau on October 1. It involved students, teachers, graduates and representatives of state institutions, IPN reports.

The lyceum’s principal Daniela Vacarciuc said that these 25 years were very beautiful, with special children. The first generations were very motivated as these aspired to something new and wanted to know what a lyceum was. The next generations wanted to follow the first, while the current students are those who want to enter the academic community.

“Vasile Dombrov founded a collective and wrote a testament full of kindness for the successors. Our good principal, we keep your name in our souls and pray for forgiveness. You are always near us and what we do is done in your memory,” stated Daniela Vacarciuc.

Attending the event, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that 25 years of work for an education institution is a start. Most of the education institutions bear names of personalities and there is probably a connection between the personality and the institution. “I hope Alecsandri’s star will guide and help you and will inspire you,” he stated.

Valentina Cujba, deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youths and Sport, said that today’s event is a special one in the history of education of Chisinau municipality and of Moldova too because namely this institution opened the way to lyceum education.

The Theoretical Lyceum “Vasile Alecsandri” was founded in 1990, when it was 100 years of the death of the poet and writer Vasile Alecsandri.
