For more than 340,000 students, the first bell ring announced the start of the new school year. About 35,000 children go to the first grade today, September 1, IPN reports.

On the occasion of the First Bell Ring festivity held at the Chisinau-based Romanian-French Theoretical Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi”, priest Ioan Ciuntu blessed the students and told them that the teachers are the seed sown in students’ souls and the students must remember everything the teachers tell them as these teach them only good things.

The lyceum’s principal Boris Volosatyi said “Gheorghe Asachi” is the oldest education institution in the area between the Prut and the Nistru Rivers and the first class today is entitled “Mother, my homeland”, which is aimed at developing the students’ patriotism. Everyone has jitters, but the over 200 first-graders are especially anxious.

Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca wished the students easy and fruitful studies and told them that the country’s fate now depends more on them than on the current politicians.
