The first 6 national clinical protocols have been printed and sent Saturday to medical institutions to be implemented. The on-line versions are posted on the Health Ministry's web page and will soon be available on CDs to be installed on computers. Other 27 protocols have been approved and are printed, Info-Prim Neo reports. Healthcare Minister Larisa Catrinici said, at the handover ceremony, the protocols will be used by the medical institutions to improve their services, contributing to fight corruption in the healthcare system. “The clinical protocols represent a standardization of medical treatment and assistance offered to patients and are compulsory. They enable the doctor to select, correctly and efficiently, the tactics of treating the patient, easing making decision in emergencies,” Larisa Catrinici said. “These protocols are a must come from providing quality standards to the medical assistance, to be enjoyed equally by any patient in every corner of the country, but also a measure meant to curb on corruption in the healthcare system,” the health minister said. The protocols will be used as guides to buy medicines and medical equipment. “Thus, the quality of medical assistance will rise much, what will allow for decreasing disability and death rates, as the life of patients will improve,” Eleonora Vatamanu, a specialist of the Health Ministry, said. According to an advisor of the 'Good Governance' program, Roger Vaughan, Moldova's set of protocols will guide all the clinical practice in the country, as they are based on the best international practice in terms of medicine based on proofs. The protocols for 20 diseases more are been drafted now. The development and printing of the documents has been carried out with the support of the US Millennium Challenge Corporation within the Country Threshold Program of Moldova, through the “Good Governance” program.
