Two major fires broke out on Sunday in Chisinau and Cimislia. A 92-year-old woman lost her life and a 56-year-old woman suffered severe burns. According to investigators, in both cases the fires were caused by safety violations, IPN reports.

The authorities report that the first fire broke out in the morning in a house on Tudor Vladimirescu Street in Chisinau. Firefighters were alerted at 06:50 and arrived on the scene to find a six-square-meter room engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire at around 07:22, rescuers discovered the charred body of the owner. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started from an electric stove, which had not been used with proper precautions.

A few hours later, another fire broke out in a house on Maria Bleah-Conovalov Street in the city of Cimislia. Firefighters removed two gas cylinders from the house and thus avoided an explosion. The owner of the house suffered severe burns on her arms and needed medical attention. According to initial findings, the fire most likely started from a candle or a candle left lit near flammable materials.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations draws attention to the importance of observing fire prevention rules. People are urged to check the condition of electrical heating appliances, not to leave candles burning and to pay extra attention to the elderly, who are vulnerable to these dangers.

IGSU has recorded 361 fires since the beginning of this year, resulting in 31 deaths.
