Five persons died from carbon monoxide poisoning in fires in their homes on Monday, January 25. Dorina Cruc, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the fires were caused by defective or overheated stoves. A 69-year-old man was killed in a fire in Ceadar-Lunga town. The fire destroyed objects in the house and then stopped burning. A fire that broke out in an annexe situated near the forester's house in Cosauti village of Soroca district took the life of a woman aged 80. A man aged 84 was found dead in his house in Suri village of Drochia district. The clothes on his bed were destroyed by fire. An overheated stove in a house in Costuleni village of Ungheni district made the gas cylinder explode. The owner of the house, a 80-year-old woman, was killed in the fire. A woman aged 83 got poisoned with carbon monoxide emitted by the defective stove in her house in Besghioz village of Ciadar-Lunga district. The 147 fires that happened in Moldova this year resulted in 32 deaths.
