Firefighters urge people to clear space for fire engines

Car park barriers installed illegally on some streets and in apartment houses’ yards are a big problem for firefighters, as they block the fire engines’ access to the places where their intervention is needed. Removing such an obstacle takes from 7 to 10 minutes, as proved on Thursday, during an awareness campaign of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service. Press officer Lilianu Puscasu told Info-Prim Neo these obstacles hinder the fire engines’ interventions, especially of the ladder trucks to fires in apartment blocks. State inspectors for fire safety measures will carefully check every district in Chisinau and will order the removal of any illegal barriers. The inspection will go on 6 days. Afterwards, authorities will have 3 days to redress the situation. Otherwise, administrative penalties will be applied. The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service urges people to prevent the installation of car park barriers in order to allow firefighters to intervene in time. People’s lives can be at stake.
