On Easter night firefighters will be on vigil in every church across Moldova to prevent fires from happening, Info-Prim Neo reports. Sergiu Chircu, division head at the Department for Firefighters and Rescuers, said the measure is a precaution against the combination of kindled candles and people staying chock-and-block close to each other inside churches during Easter night. At least one firefighter will assist the ceremonies, while the rest of the squads will stay alert in fire stations to respond at any minute. During a period of 10 days before and after last Easter, unattended burning candles were responsible for 23 fires, which caused damages estimated at 660,000 lei. Another problem for the firefighters in this period is people burning rubbish. Such fires, which are often left unattended, may spread and cause damages. On Thursday alone the firefighters responded to 12 such cases, which takes their number to 90 this week.
