None of the leaders of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) studied the causes of the failure of the constitutional referendum and each of them presents their own version so as to clean up their images, Feodor Ghelici, the head of the public association "Moldova Mea" ("My Moldova"), said in a news conference on Wednesday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Fiodor Ghelici said the leaders of the AEI, by the September 5 plebiscite, tried to liquidate the Moldovan state by uniting it with Romania. “The people are afraid they can remain without their country. The low voter turnout at the referendum is not due to the Communist propaganda. It is the result of the unification of 70% of the Moldovans, Russians, Ukrainians, Gagauzians and people of other nationalities,” said the head of "Moldova Mea", which forms part of the Civil Society Congress. Another cause of the failure of the referendum, according to Ghelici, is the fact that the AEI leaders did not explain what a plebiscite is and what choice the people should make. “Mister Ghimpu, as a master of memorial stones, laid the funeral stone of the Alliance. The leaders of the AEI are only to write their names on it,” Fiodor Ghelici said. He considers that the people will give the AEI a lesson in the early legislative elections as it fulfilled none of the promises made a year ago. The major problems have not been solved. Instead, they took populist actions, including the removal of the barbed wire fence at the border with Romania, placement of commemorative plaques, creation of the commission for condemning communism. “The national economy is in decline. The grains are exported and this will lead to a deeper crisis,” Fiodor Ghelici said. According to him, the early parliamentary elections should take place in spring not now, when houses should be built for flood victims as the winter is approaching.
