Activist Fiodor Ghelici, who manages the public association “Moldova Mea”, is held at the remand center of the Chisinau Police Division. He will stay there for 72 hours, press officer of the Border Police Daniel Manzatu has told IPN.
On October 11, prosecution officers of the Border Police Department initiated a number of activities aimed at annihilating a criminal group dealing with trafficking in human beings and in children. A series of searches were performed at the homes of persons involved in this case.
In a news conference, Fiodor Ghelici anticipated that he will be arrested. He said the police suspect him of trafficking in persons through the organization that he heads and requested President Nicolae Timofti to intervene. Fiodor Ghelici’s son Serghei Ghelici considers that his father’s arrest is a political order.
