The Civil Society Congress postponed the protest that it scheduled for the start of May as chairman Fiodor Ghelici decided to run in the local elections for a seat on the Chisinau Municipal Council. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Fiodor Ghelici said that he is supported by people of culture and they are now collecting signatures in favor of his candidacy for councilor. If he is registered as election runner by May 5, he will not take part in the protest so as not to be accused of campaigning through protests. Earlier, the administration of the Civil Society Congress announced that if Parliament does not elect the head of state by May 1, they will issue an ultimatum. The lawmakers will be blocked in the assembly hall and will be allowed to leave only after they elect the President. The Civil Society Congress consists of eight nongovernmental organizations. In order to be registered as a candidate for municipal councilor, Fiodor Ghelici must collect at least 250 signatures in his support.
