The Communist lawmakers are ready to vote Marian Lupu in as head of state. It is the Liberal-Democratic faction that does not want Lupu to become President, the head of the Civil Society Congress Fiodor Ghelici told a news conference. He said he obtained the information from the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, Info-Prim Neo reports. Fiodor Ghelici said he sent invitations to all the heads of the parliamentary parties, but only the Communist leader accepted to speak about the election of the President. “We discussed for 45 minutes. Vladimir Voronin said the Communist MPs are ready to vote for Marian Lupu and they will do it when this issue is included in the agenda,” he stated. He also said that they discussed the possibility of fielding an apolitical candidate and Vladimir Voronin said there are many persons who can be elected President. Fiodor Ghelici stressed that he knows Vlad Filat very well and can say with certitude that the PLDM will never vote for Marian Lupu because the Premier wants the position of head of state for himself. The head of the Civil Society Congress said he also spoke with the head of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Serafim Urecheanu, who anticipated that early elections would take place in autumn. The Civil Society Congress, which consists of eight NGOs, has an apolitical candidate for the presidency. This is analyst Viorel Cibotaru, director of the European Institute for Political Studies, said the Congress's vice president Felix Mihailean.
