As from June 15, fishing is permitted for most species of fish, except for species included in the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova. Fishing on particular river sections and in particular lakes and at night is not allowed.
Contacted by IPN for details, Mihai Shcherbiuc, senior cynegetic manager at the Hunters and Fishermen Society, said that to be able to catch fish, a person does not have to register with the Society. Those who want to fish in the Nistru and the Prut will have to buy authorizations from the Environmental Agency. A day of fishing costs 30 lei. For a year, the fishing permit costs 300 lei.
If the person catches fish in a private pond, the taxes for one or more fishing rods differ. It is allowed fishing with one or more rods, but with at most five hooks. A person can catch up to 5 kg of fish a day.
Galina Norocea, head of the Environmental Information and Education Service of the Environmental Agency, said that to protect, restore and conserve aquatic biological resources, fishing throughout the year 100 meters upstream and downstream the bridges on the Nistru and the Prut is banned, as it is at the points where the tributaries flow into the Nistru and the Prut and in other places.
