Those that do not observe the fire safety rules in parks and forests are liable to fines of up to 400 lei. Under the new Code of Administrative Offences, the destruction or damaging of the green areas as a result of fires or negligent attitude towards the fire is punished with fines from 200 to 400 lei or 20 to 60 hours of community service. The fine for not complying with the sanitary rules is from 20 to 40 lei. ”The police supervise how the people observe the rules. If the sanitary or antifire rules are broken in recreational areas, the police officers can take the culprits to the nearest police station and write reports against them,” the spokesman for the General Police Commissariat of Chisinau Tudor Capatan has told Info-Prim Neo. Tudor Capatana also said that the green areas are patrolled mainly by policemen on horseback on nonworking days. The Code of Administrative Offences comes into force on May 31, 2009.
