Nine people were fined the last few days after setting fire to dry vegetation. During April 11-17, the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and the local inspectorates imposed fines in the amount of 18,750 lei and penalties in the form of 200 hours of community service. The lawbreakers are from Balti municipality and Râșcani and Fălești districts, IPN reports.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that 1,195 cases of burning dry vegetation, affecting an area of 2,510 hectares of land, have been reported in Moldova so far.

Vegetation fires pose an eminent danger to the housing sector, the environment, the human life and health. The citizens are urged not to ignite dry vegetation, household garbage and reedbeds and to also avoid using open fire to sanitize households.

Cigarette butts, matches and other smoldering objects shall not be thrown onto dry grass near wooded areas and farmland. Children must be strictly monitored by adults, the Inspectorate’s specialists urge.
