A 28-year-old young man from Chisinau was fined 57,500 lei for false statements and false accusations. In an attempt to recover a supposed debt of 1,500 euros, he falsely accused a man of committing fraud, claiming that it caused a damage of approximately 2,500 euros, reports IPN, citing the General Prosecutor's Office.
Based on the complaint filed by the young man, a criminal case was initiated on March 4, 2023. However, the initiation of the criminal investigation was refused in an ordinance issued five months later.
While being questioned during the criminal proceedings, the whistleblower provided information that contradicted the statements made by others and the evidence collected.
The young man eventually admitted that his report was false and requested the case to be reviewed based on the evidence gathered during the investigation phase.
The ruling is not final and can be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
