The first wine guidebook entitled “Fine Wine Guide 2018” was launched in Moldova. This is a non-hierarchic collection of 50 Moldovan wines classed into three price categories that also includes over 20 vineries with a selection of dry, sparkling, ice, white, red, rose and other kinds of wine.

The wine selection was made by Andrei Cibotaru, author of the blog FineWine.md, and Victor Bunescu, founder of vincuvin.shop, in partnership with experts of the National Office of Vine and Wine and a foreign sommelier, IPN reports.

Attending the launch, Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Kiril Gaburici said the Republic of Moldova has a great potential to make wine, including high-quality wines. “We work for the wines included in this guide and not only to be present in homes and on shop shelves in Moldova and abroad, where the people appreciate the high-quality wine,” noted the minister.

Andrei Cibotaru said the guidebook is designed to help wine consumers to make an own selection and choice when they are in front of a large shelf with wines. Each of the 50 wines included in the guide is described on one page. The wines are divided into tree price categories – up to 125 lei; between 125 and 225 lei, and over 225 lei. The cheapest wine costs about 60 lei a bottle, while the most expensive one 1,000 lei a bottle.

National Office of Vine and Wine director Gheorghe Arpentin said the guide is a good means of communication and a guideline because the consumer cannot taste a wide range of wines.

Diana Lazăr, vice director of the Moldova Competitiveness Project, noted the guidebook is intended for those who are wine connoisseurs and those who want to become connoisseurs. “This is a high-quality book that is full of high-quality wines. It tells about people with an extraordinary destiny who make these wines and make us be proud that we are from Moldova. Moreover, these wines come from areas that deserve to be visited by tourists,” she stated.

The guide 2018 was printed in 3,000 copies in the Romanian language. To the general public, this will be presented in the central square of Chisinau on the National Wine Day that is celebrated on October 6 and 7. About 500 copies will be distributed to Romania. The book is to be translated into English.
